Downtown Adventures, June 2012, A. Espetveidt, Quadrophonic Image
This past month I have spent a lot of time wondering downtown – this is what I’ve learned… Prince’s Island is a wonderful place to kill a morning. The new Devonian Gardens are way too clinical looking and I miss the old leaky ones (plus I cannot recommend there for wedding photos if the heat lamps are on. You will be orange.). Stephen Ave at lunch is too full of cranky business men who don’t watch where they’re going. There are some really nice community gardens in planters next to the sky scrapers. You can eat for cheap downtown, you just have to know where to look (Black Betty is pretty good and the food trucks are awesome). And cyclists do not respect pedestrians and cross walks, but then again, the cars don’t either. But all in all, downtown is much cleaner than in my youth, people are much snootier but there are really nice gardens in between buildings…
